Jay’s taste in cars (and motorcycles and steam engines) generally runs towards those which offer something new, different or better from an engineering point of view- and Lancias are certainly on the mark there.
It was interesting that he’d never driven a Fulvia before. I’ll write a bit more about the Fulvia in a day or so, but suffice to say that it’s every inch a proper Lancia- from the beautifully cast narrow-angle V-4 engine and terrific gearbox to its great handling and superb ride.
Add to that a really dramatic, and to my eyes beautiful, body by Carrozzeria Zagato and a pair of the most comfortable seats ever to grace a small displacement GT car and you’ve got a world-beater.
Take a look a the video of the visit and Jay’s drive. You’ll see how quickly he falls for the magnetic charms of this great little car.
And, I hope you had a chance to check out the premier of Jay’s new broadcast show version of ‘Jay Leno’s Garage’ on CNBC. Shot during ‘Monterey Week’ in August, I make an appearance on the show, talking about what a potential buyer should ask before purchasing a collector car.
It seems as if the ratings were pretty strong- and that there will be more shows. Look for me on future editions, holding forth on collector car values and why certain cars are the ones more people care about than others… More Fun with Jay!
